 According to nutritionists, drinking habits to reduce visceral fat after age 50

It is important not to  look at all types of body fat in the same way. For example,  subcutaneous fat,  protective fat just below the skin. This type of fat is not as dangerous as the so-called visceral fat found around the internal organs of the abdomen. 

 In fact,  a study from the University of Illinois at Chicago found a strong link between excess visceral fat and insulin resistance, metabolic disorders, and even death. Harvard Health also states that visceral fat can raise cholesterol levels and is associated with an increased risk of heart disease. 

 This can impact anyone, but it's especially crucial to watch your levels of visceral fat as you age, since your risk for heart issues and diabetes can rise as you get older. 

 With these dangers in mind, how can we control our visceral fat levels after the age of 50? To find out, we talked with medical expert board member, registered dietitian Lauren Manaker, MS, RDN, author of The First Time Mom's Pregnancy Cookbook and Fueling Male Fertility, about some helpful drinking habits that can help.

No 1- Avoid excessive drinking



For any type of weight loss, it can usually lead to empty calories, so it usually helps to limit your alcohol consumption. Manaker warns that this is especially true when it comes to visceral fat. 

 "It's okay to drink cocktails once in a while, but too much alcohol can cause your body to accumulate fat as visceral fat and increase your waist size. Instead, stick to mocktails and sodas," Manakar said. Mr. says.

NO 2- Drink green tea

Green tea is one of the healthiest drinks you can have. It not only reduces the risk of cancer, improves brain health and supports dental health, but  also leads to weight loss. The weight loss properties of 

 green tea are derived from one of its powerful compounds called polyphenols, which are known to improve metabolism. 

 And those who are trying to reduce visceral fat will be pleased to know that green tea has been shown to  help especially tummy fat. "Data show that green tea intake is associated with a 12-week decrease in visceral fat," says Manaker.

NO 3- Don't overdo it with artificial sweets

It`s understandable that when you're trying to shed some pounds, you may try replacing sugar with artificial sweeteners. Unfortunately, Manaker warns that these may actually lead to more weight gain around your belly. 

 "Many people lean on artificial sweeteners when they are trying to limit their sugar intake, but drinking beverages with these sweeteners in excess may result in fat being deposited as visceral fat," she says.

No 4 Stick to the water to rehydrate


Finally, maintaining hydration is important for losing weight and managing  weight loss. "Water does not contain calories and does not gain weight  when consumed. Therefore, when trying to monitor visceral fat accumulation, it may be  best  to rehydrate with traditional H2O. "Hmm," says Manaker.
